The Sixty-ninth Legislative Assembly insists on restoring the issue of marriage and enforcement of all laws pertaining to marriage back to the states and the people
The Secretary of State shall forward a copy of this resolution to the United States Supreme Court.
Why is this resolution needed?
As Justice Clarence Thomas noted in his dissent to Obergefell, “In our society, marriage is not simply a governmental institution; it is a religious institution as well...and it appears all but inevitable that the two will come into conflict, particularly as individuals and churches are confronted with demands to participate in and endorse civil marriages between same-sex couples.”
Redefining marriage has detrimentally and directly redefined parenthood because it has made men and women, and therefore fathers and mothers, legally interchangeable. This violates God’s Law as well as a child’s natural right to his or her biological parents. So-called gay marriage is not merely about the feeling of love between two consenting adults, it is a matter of justice for children.
Ryan Anderson writes, “Marriage is based on the truth that men and women are complementary, the biological fact that reproduction depends on a man and a woman, and the reality that children need a mother and a father. Redefining marriage does not simply expand the existing understanding of marriage; it rejects these truths.”
Same-Sex Marriage Dishonors God &
Harms Children
A life-long union between a man and woman is the only marriage relationship that honors God and protects the children, and therefore it is the only relationship that government should promote and protect as an institution.
