Joint Statement of Support for ND’s Prenatal Equal Protection Act

A Joint Statement in Support of the North Dakota Prenatal Equal Protection Act
As a coalition of Christian and/or conservative organizations and individuals, we strongly support the North Dakota Prenatal Equal Protection Act, HB 1373, filed by State Representative Lori VanWinkle.
HB 1373 would end abortion in North Dakota by ensuring that every pre-born child enjoys the same legal protections from homicide that protect the lives of born people. At the moment of fertilization, God creates a new human being with a unique genetic code. HB 1373 protects human life at fertilization when personhood truly begins.
Pre-born babies are still being murdered at the same rate they were being murdered prior to the implementation of North Dakota’s most significant pro-life laws. In 2023, over 1,000 North Dakota babies were killed by abortions that remain legal under current North Dakota law. 780 babies were aborted out of state1 while an additional estimated 221 mothers used the abortion pill to legally perform self-managed abortions on North Dakota soil2.
Providing equal protection to pre-born babies is about loving our pre-born neighbors as ourselves by protecting their lives with the same laws that protect our lives (Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31) and showing no partiality or discrimination in justice (Psalm 82:2, Proverbs 20:10). God also commands us to pursue justice for the fatherless child (Psalm 82:3, Isaiah 1:17, Isaiah 10:2, and Jeremiah 5:28). The pre-born abortion victim is the fatherless child in America today.
State laws that allow for abortion in any capacity are in violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which declares that no state shall “deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Biblical and scientific evidence, as well as historical legal precedence, affirm the personhood of pre-born babies beyond the shadow of any doubt. HB 1373 ensures compliance with both the U.S. Constitution and God’s Word.
Irrespective of public sentiment or personal opinion, civil magistrates have a mandate from God to protect the lives of all pre-born human beings as well as a duty to uphold the Constitution of the United States. Therefore, we urge the North Dakota legislature to pass the North Dakota Prenatal Equal Protection Act without delay.
Sincerely,
